The studies carried out recent years indicate that the effects of the trauma resulting from the experience of cancer may not only be negative as well as positive changes, revealed in posttraumatic growth. Their occurrence depends of several factors, among them personal resources. The article presents the role of personal resources important in a process of emergence of positive changes resulting from the experience of cancer, including personality traits of the individual, attitudes and expectations such as optimism, self-esteem, self-efficacy, hope, spirituality. The resources related to cognitive functioning, such as cognitive schemata, their vulnerability to change and ruminations were also taken into account. Possibility to promote posttraumatic growth in cancer patients was also presented.
