Care of the kidney recipient includes aspects related to the performance of nursing activities and procedures, but also providing the patient with emotional and educational support. The quality of nursing care is one of the most important elements affecting patient satisfaction. The measurement and assessment of satisfaction with nursing care is an indispensable element.
Aim of the study
Understanding the experiences of kidney recipients and assessing satisfaction with the nursing care received. Material and methods. The research was carried out in two Warsaw kidney transplant centers, among 35 kidney recipients in the post-operative period using the Polish Version of the Satisfaction with Newcastle Care Scale. The research was conducted for 6 months, at the turn of 2017 and 2018.
Results
The experience of nursing care and the satisfaction of kidney recipients of this care are at a high level – 89.5 and 91.1 points, respectively, according to the NSNS scale. Gender, age, education and time of hospitalisation had no significant impact on the patients’ experiences regarding nursing care and perceived satisfaction related to care provided in the ward by nursing staff (p > 0.05).
Conclusions
The experience of nursing care and the satisfaction of kidney recipients of this care are at a high level. Therefore, it can be concluded that the surveyed patients are satisfied with the received nursing care and evaluate it highly. Sociodemographic factors and the time of stay in the ward do not determine the sense of satisfaction with the received care. The respondents are satisfied with the received nursing care and highly appreciate it.
