Aim of the study: In recent years there is a growing interest in mixed states in the course of affective disorders. The aim of this study is to present the development of the concept of mixed states in Polish psychiatric literature since publication of the first textbooks till now.
Method: The authors have analyzed all Polish psychiatric textbooks published since 1845 until now.
Conclusions: The position of mixed states in polish textbooks reflects the impact of the world science on school-bookish knowledge in Poland. The review explains also the reason, why some psychiatrists still consider the mixed state in terms of schizoaffective, as well as personality disorder with psychotic disease, and not affective episodes.
