This review highlighted the importance of integrating generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) into dental education to modernize the curriculum and enhance the competencies of dental students. It emphasized the necessity of incorporating Gen AI into dental education to equip future professionals with digital and AI-driven skills.
Study data were retrieved from various academic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus, focusing on research exploring the application of machine learning (ML), AI, and Gen AI in dental, medical, and educational fields. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, evaluating the impact of AI technologies on educational outcomes, skill acquisition, and career development. Since this was a narrative review, a formal methodology section was not included.
Several dental, medical, and nursing institutions have already started integrating Gen AI into their curricula to train students, demonstrating promising results. Students trained with Gen AI exhibited higher confidence, improved diagnostic capabilities, and enhanced adaptability in handling critical clinical scenarios.
This review provides an in-depth overview of how curriculum design can be optimized to incorporate Gen AI effectively. It examines successful case studies and pilot programs, highlighting the transformative benefits of Gen AI in improving interactive learning, clinical simulations, and real-time feedback mechanisms. To prepare students for a digitally advanced dental profession, curriculum developers must adapt and integrate AI-driven methodologies into modern dental education.
