Results of the programme educational health-promoting program for early identification diabetes mellitus type 2 and other hyperglycemic as the prevention of cardiovascular diseases states entitled „Be ahead of diabetes mellitus”

Introduction. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic, but to a great extent preventable metabolc disease. Early diagnosis of diabetes mellitus
has an undeniable impact on the effectiveness of its further treatment and prevention of possible complications. The educational healthpromoting
programme for early identification of patients with diabetes mellitus and other hyperglycaemic states entitled «»Be ahead of
diabetes mellitus”, launched as prevention of cardiovascular diseases, was aimed at early detection of impaired fasting glucose levels and
primary prevention of diabetes mellitus. This programme has been carried out by the Health Promotion Department of the Silesian Centre
for Heart Disease in Zabrze for approximately four months (August–November 2007) in the Silesia Province.
Aim of the study. Presentation of the educational and salubrious program’s results.

Material and methods. A total group of 6701 individuals participated in the programme. The work is based on Card of program which
includes interview, results of researches, range of education.

Results and conclusions. The study includes results of feedback on the programme realization. Researching population was imperiled of
diabetes. Three percent of the population had carbohydrate management disorder. About 30% of the population did not agree for further
diagnostics.
