Infection in the chronic wound can occur at any stage of the healing process, not only inhibiting this process, but also threaten the lives of patients. Therefore, a group of experts of Polish Wound Management Association and the European Wound Management Association recommended taking appropriate diagnostic actions, treatment and prevention steps. Current treatment of choice for would management is to follow aseptic principles, wound cleaning, use of antiseptics and modern antimicrobial dressings, which reduce the adhesion of microorganisms to a great extent and reduce their number in the wound to a safe level. According to current recommendations, local treatment should be based on the assumptions of T.I.M.E. (T – tissue debridement, I – infection and inflammation control, M – moisture balance, E – epidermization stimulation) strategy. One of the elements of the T.I.M.E. is “I” (infection). Dealing with a chronic wound in accordance with the existing guidelines is the only possibility and recommendation to protect chronic wound and fight against microorganisms.
