The after-effects of damage of the spinal cord change the existing lifestyle, lead to a change to the system of values and force the patient to look for new ways of self-actualization in a different reality. One of basic aims of rehabilitation and nursing care is to elevate the quality of handicapped persons’ life. Early and comprehensive rehabilitation after spinal cord injuries by the whole therapeutic team considerably softens after-effects of persons’ handicap. The nurse plays an important role in facilitating and accelerating the process of rehabilitation, as well as in adaptation to life in the altered situation.
