Hypermobility syndrome and rheumatic diseases

Pathogenesis, diagnostics and clinical picture of joint hypermobility as a symptom of benign joint hypermobility syndrome and some multisystemic clinical syndromes (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Marfan syndrome) are presented. The most frequent musculoskeletal symptoms observed in hypermobile subjects are: arthralgia, myalgia, traumatic and overuse lesions, joint and tendon sheath synovitis, rotator cuff lesions, back pain due to soft injury or disk prolapse. Joint instability (flat feet, dislocation, subluxation), chronic arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis are also noticed.
