Laparoscopy like other surgical methods is a known factor increasing the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). This is a consequence of creating a pneumoperitoneum which can cause compression of the vena cava inferior and rise of venous resistance and leads to venous stasis. For patients with endocrinological diseases the general principles of VTE prophylaxis remain the same as for other patients. However, the additional risk factors for VTE such as hypercortisolaemia and hormonal substitute treatment must be taken into account. Due to the fact that laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA) became a standard treatment for adrenal pathology, the authors present the method and the results of VTE prophylaxis in patients who underwent LA.
