Candida sp. and less frequently Trichomonas vaginalis are responsible for 90% of vaginal infections. In recent years an increasing incidence of vaginal infections has been observed and at present approximately one in every four cases has a mycotic aetiology.
Treatment of the fungal infections requires good understanding of pathophysiology of the abnormal vaginal discharge and other symptoms. Special care must be taken in case of recurrent infections. Proper history must be taken and all the symptoms recorded before administration of any drugs.
The authors described aetiology, diagnosis and currently available methods of treatment of vaginal candidiasis.
