This paper is devoted to issues related to abdominal aortic aneurysms and screening tests. It aims to raise awareness among medical personnel about the risks posed by the lack of prevention and late diagnosis. The occurrence of abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs more often in men than in women. Late recognition of fracture carries a high risk of death, reaching 60–80%. Planned surgical treatment is associated with a significantly lower risk of death (3–6%). In most cases abdominal aortic aneurysms are detected accidentally, usually during routine imaging. Outside Poland screening tests have been in place for a long time to detect abdominal aortic aneurysms at an early stage. The work shows that population screening is very important. Poland has also recently conducted several population screening tests to detect abdominal aortic aneurysms. Currently, several Vascular Societies recommend ultrasound examination in men aged 65 years.
