The fundamental aim of measuring life quality after thoracosurgical operations is full assessment of the effectiveness of employed treatment and nursing process including subjective look of the patient himself at his results, according to his physical condition and physical fitness, mental condition and somatic experience. The aim of this work is to assess the quality of life in the nursing of patients with operations on the thorax. The research was conducted among 150 patients operated on in Thoracic Surgery Clinic MA in Gdansk. A modified version of the ESAS (Edmonton Symptom Assessment System) scale was used for life quality assessment. Wolfe and Yung’s method was used for categorization assessment. Statistical analysis was carried out with the STATISTICA 7.0. package. The results show that life quality assessment does not depend on demographic variables and type of intervention. There is a relation between categorization carried out by nurses and activity assessment carried out by patients.
