Melatonin in menopausal women

Melatonin has recently received a great deal of attention because of its possible role in the aging process. Although melatonin can not be univocally recognized as a substance delaying aging, some of its actions may be beneficial for the process of aging. It seems that age-related decline in melatonin secretion may have various consequences, including sleep inefficiency, circadian rhythm dysregulation, reduced antioxidant protection, impaired immune function, and possible others. In this review data on the role of melatonin in the aging process, with special attention paid to menopause, are presented.
