Chemical injuries of the gastrointestinal tract are quite common among children. They occur in every geographical region and can lead to complications that have a major impact on health and life. The objective of the study was to present the problem of chemical burns of the oesophagus and selected nursing interventions based on a case study. The research method used in the study was the individual case method. The study was conducted in a hospital in Warsaw and involved a 16-year-old patient after a chemical injury to the gastrointestinal tract. The material was collected on the basis of observation and nursing interview. The patient’s medical and nursing records were analysed.

The interventions undertaken were very comprehensive. They included a holistic approach and an extensive treatment process.

The nursing activities changed depending on the patient’s needs and covered the physical, mental, and social spheres.
