Management of ethylene glycol poisoning — a case report

Introduction. Ethylene glycol poisoning is one of the heaviest poisonings in the practice of toxicology. It is often fatal.

Aim of the study. The purpose of the work was to identify nursing problems in the care of the patient after ethylene glycol poisoning on the
basis of a study of the individual case.

Material and methods. The research was done with use of the study of the individual case. The applied research techniques ware: interview,
analysis of medical records — the history of the disease, toxicology intensive care records, nursing process and results of laboratory
tests and imaging.

Results and conclusions. Nursing process ensures that patient and his family receive optimal nursing care tailored to their actual needs. It
continuously evaluates both the biological and psychosocial status of the patient and enables the modification of the nursing care, should
a change in hierarchy of nursing problems occurs.
