Article describes clinical, ethical and legal aspects of sedation in end life adult patients from french perspective. Clinical and ethical considerations are based on recomendations of good practice of French Society of Palliative Care (Société Française d’Accompagnement et de Soins Palliatifs). Legal aspects were predicated on act 2005-370 from 22 April 2005 (Loi Léonetti), decret numer 2010-107 from 29 January 2010, Sicard Raport from 18 December 2012, Leonetti Raport from 17 April 2013 and opinion numer 121 from National Consulting Ethics Comitee (Comité Consultatif National d’Ethique). Limitations of medicine and human nature preclude preparations of more concrete recomendations and law acts. Neverrtheless recomendations can contribute to minimazing existing uncertainty and help the physicain to take right decision, and prepared acts give legal security.
