Introduction: Components of SOC, stress and occupational burnout have a strong influence on quality of care and satisfaction of the patients and health care workers. The aim of the study was to assess the level of SOC and its influence on the degree of occupational burnout.

Material and methods: The study included 93 nurses working in Jurasz University hospital, Bydgoszcz. The tools used were SOC-29 questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and socio-demographic questionnaire.

Results: The respondents had moderate SOC level (134.2). MBI scores were also at moderate level (reduced personal accomplishment – 31.5, emotional exhaustion – 24.1 and depersonalization – 8.2). There was a significant correlation between the SOC level and reduced personal accomplishment and emotional exhaustion.
