Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) demands evaluation, in many different features. Positive effects of HRT enfold benefits induced by estrogen and progestins, which depend on the type of hormones and the route of administration. The main role of progestins is referred to the control of endometrial tissue with parallel limitation related to expected lowest metabolic activity. Intravaginal micronized progesterone based on theoretical data (effective absorption, high therapeutic concentration in the uterus, lowest concentration in the serum blood) gives as hope about good effectiveness of micronized progesterone in the hormonal replacement therapy. The aim of our study was the evaluation of the effects of micronized progesterone given intravaginally and comparison with norethisterone given orally. Lipid profile, carbohydrate parameters and clotting factors were measured. Conclusions: tolerance of micronized progesterone given intravaginaly in climacteric period is good and efficient. Comparison of the micronized progesterone and norethisteron in the hormonal replacement therapy revealed no statistically important differences regarding influence on the lipid and carbohydrate metabolism as well as on the clotting factors.
