Introduction:

Anaphylaxis is a severe medical emergency that can occur during flights. This study evaluates cabin crew knowledge and response skills to enhance in-flight emergency preparedness.

Aim:

This study aimed to assess the knowledge and preparedness of cabin crew members regarding anaphylaxis management during flights. The goal was to evaluate their ability to recognize and respond to such emergencies and identify areas for improvement in their training programs.

Material and methods:

A cross-sectional study was conducted using a 19-question online survey distributed to cabin crew members from various airlines. The survey included demographic questions and topics such as symptom recognition, emergency response procedures, and the use of onboard medical equipment. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS, with χ2 tests applied for categorical data comparisons.

Results:

A total of 63 cabin crew members participated, of whom 46% had received training on anaphylaxis, but only 14.3% knew that intramuscular injection was the correct method of administering adrenaline. Additionally, 93.7% were unaware of the correct adrenaline re-administration interval. The survey revealed that 15.9% of crew members had encountered an anaphylactic event, and most cases were triggered by food allergies.

Conclusions:

In order to be prepared for emergencies, both educational programs and anaphylaxis awareness should be enhanced through regular updates and practical applications.
