Gastrostomy tube is a type of stomach-skin artificial fistula created mainly to deliver nutrients directly to patient’s stomach. This type of nutrition allows feeding patients with malignant diseases, neurologic disorders, injuries of facial skeleton area when physiological feeding through the mouth becomes very difficult or even impossible. Nursing problems due to the necessity of maintaining nutritional gastrostomy tube are frequently observed and concern almost all patients. Observing the rules of nutrition and adequate nursing care based on the Evidence Based Nursing (EBN) minimizes the number of complications, which may not be related not only to patient’s clinical status, but often result from the lack of experience, insufficient knowledge of both carers and patients receiving nutrition through gastrostomy.
