This article is a review of the latest reports on thromboembolic complications, both arterial and venous, of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The authors focused on the results of big randomized studies, as well as meta-analyses and recommendations of scientific societies dealing with menopausal issues. It has been emphasized that both the way of hormone administration and the type of progestogen used can influence the thromboembolic risk of HRT.
