The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are asymptomatic and are detected as an incidental finding on ultrasonography, abdominal computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging performed for other purposes.

The likelihood that an aneurysm will rupture is influenced by a number of factors including the aneurysm size. The aneurysm size is one of the strongest predictors of the risk of rupture, with a risk increasing markedly at aneurysm diameters of more than 5.5 cm. The repair options include surgical repair or endovascular repair. Endovascular repair of an AAA is a less invasive and less expensive alternative to open surgical repair.
