Retinoids are synthetic derivatives of vitamin A. Retinoid therapy has many side-effects. There are systemic manifestations as well as rheumatic symptoms. Hyperostosis, enthesopathy, vasculitis (Wegener’s granulomatosis) and myositis are the predominant rheumatic symptoms. During retinoid therapy often arthralgia, arthritis and osteoporosis have been observed. Some associated procedures should be performed to correctly diagnose those side-effects. It is important to possess knowledge about this kind of rheumatoid manifestations during therapy. Close cooperation between the rheumatologist and other doctors is necessary to apply proper therapy for patients who needs this kind of management.
