Introduction:
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between mothers’ declared dietary patterns and nutritional status and eating habits in children. It was hypothesised that children who follow a balanced diet would demonstrate better health indicators compared to those who do not adhere to any particular dietary guidelines. Material and methods: The research was conducted in 6 public primary schools within the Pomeranian Voivodeship from September 2022 to January 2023, with the participation of 515 mothers or legal guardians. Children’s eating habits were evaluated through questionnaires, specifically employing the children’s eating behaviour questionnaire and the food frequency questionnaire. Results: The findings revealed that children adhering to a Mediterranean or vegetarian diet were more likely to maintain a healthy body weight and to choose healthier snacks, such as fruits, when compared to those who did not follow any specific diet. In contrast, children without a defined dietary plan were more prone to being overweight and exhibited a higher consumption of sweets. Conclusions: These results suggest that structured diets, particularly the Mediterranean and vegetarian options, can positively influence children’s eating habits and body composition. keywords:
