Frostbites are bodily damages caused by exposure to low temperature. The symptoms of frostbites are physiological and anatomical disorders of single cells and tissues.

Up to the second half of the 20th century frostbites were mainly diagnosed in soldiers. At the present time the problem concerns chiefly the poor and the homeless living in a cold climate. In the USA about 1000 people a year die because of cold. Nowardays there are several methods of treating frostbites, surgery, however, still plays a significant role in the treatment.

In the following article the authors present modern techniques of treating frostbites as well as a review of the latest literature referring to this problem.
