The aim of the study is to present the stages of introducing a procedure to prevent intraoperative unintentional hypothermia.
The hospital has developed a procedure for maintaining a patient operated on in normothermia, including patients staying in the operating theatre, with the expected duration of the procedure exceeding 60 minutes.
Apparatus: apparatus for heating with warm air, apparatus for heating infusion fluids, and a thermometer for non-invasive measurement of deep temperature were installed in all operating theatres and in the post-anaesthesia supervision room. The practice has proven that, despite having full equipment in the first months of introducing the procedure, one should take into account the low effectiveness of its introduction into everyday practice. The intensification of training and the successive involvement of staff led to the improvement of the implemented project and improvement of the quality of care for patients.
