Aim: The aim of this paper was to analyze pregnancy, delivery, puerperium and neonatal outcome in 163 patients between the age of 14-19 that delivered at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Mother and Child Institute in Warsaw in the years 2002-2005.
Material and method: The analyzed group consisted of 163 teenagers age 14-19, and the control group was randomly chosen 196 women between the ages 20-29. Pregnancy complications, mode and length of delivery, complications of delivery, weight, length and Apgar score of neonate in the 5th minute of life and mother’s attitude expressing by percentage of brest feeding and adoption were analyzed. The t-student test was used for statistical analysis.
Results and conclusions: Pregnancy of teenage patients is a high risk pregnancy because of: late perinatal care, smaller number of medical visits as well as a higher number of complications such as prematurity, PIH, urogenital infections, anemia, IUGR and oligohydramnios. Mode of delivery and neonatal outcome are not different from those observed in the adult patients. Adolescent patients more often give up their children for adoption.
