Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common neoplasm in women population. In many patients with epithelial tumors, also in breast cancer, the circulating epithelial cells in the periphe-ral blood in the group of patients with and without metastases were observed. Telomerase in a marker which can be use to identification these cells in the peripheral blood.
Aim of the study: 1. The opinion of possibility of utilization sign of telomerase expression to detection the presence of cancer cells in the group of patients with breast cancer in the peripheral blood.
2. Examining and the finding among level of gene expression the correlation of telomerase and the classic prognostic factors in breast cancer.
Material and method: 11 potentially healthy women, 30 women with benign tumors and 30 women with breast cancer before operating treatment were classified to this investigation breast. The detection of epithelial cells from the perip-heral blood were held by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR) method.
Results: The analysis of detection the mRNA telomerase from the peripheral blood of examined patients showed, that the results of this research at considerable majority were positive. All results were positive in breast cancer patients group, less in the group with benign breast tumors and the least at healthy. The difference in frequency of occurrence of positive results were not statistical magnificent.
Conclusions: The diagnostic meaning of presence of the carcinoma cells in the peripheral blood need more investigations.
