The significance of cytological examination as a test detecting Chlamydia trachomatis infections of the cervix is discussed. The images of direct smears and smears stained by methylene blue and also by haematoxylin and eosin with reticular bodies and cytoplasmic inclusion bodies which are characteristic of Ch. trachomatis infections are presented. Pathomorphological types of cervicitis related to Ch. trachomatis infections are discussed. The expediency of screening tests among young women and using reference methods confirming Ch. trachomatis occurrence after finding cytological features of infection by this microorganism is indicated.
