The occurrence of hell pressure ulcers in critically ill patients and those receiving palliative and long-term treatment is a problem which is avoidable in many cases. The occurrence of coexisting diseases, especially diabetes mellitus and arterial ischemia, fosters faster formation of pressure ulcers. Targeted prophylactic and therapeutic measures minimize tissue destruction in this area. The aim of the work is to present the prevention and treatment of hell pressure ulcers based on EPUAP/NPIAP (European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel/National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel) guidelines and own experience. An analysis of selected literature from 2005-2020 from following databases: PubMed, PMC, EBSCO and Termedia, Borgis, was conducted. Assessment of the skin and blood supply to the limb is a key element in the prevention of pressure ulcers within the lower limbs. Multi-directional prophylactic measures and optimal professional care minimize the risk of pressure ulcers. Infection of soft tissues and bones in the course of heel pressure ulcers creates a high risk of limb amputation.
