A group of 174 surgically treated patients with lumbar disc hernias confirmed by MRI was examined. Forty-two patients after surgery were admitted to the hospital again 2 to 8 years after the surgical treatment because of recurrence of pain. This group was compared with 132 patients after surgery without pain, to answer which prognostic factors of degenerative spine disease may influence the recurrence of back pain. According to the results, a group of negative prognostic factors for lumbar spine surgery was selected.
