Pneumococcal vaccination in adults – raising awareness

The aim of the study is to analyse and identify groups of adults with an increased risk of pneumococcal disease. The review of the literature is to provide the family physician with scientific reasons to consider pneumococcal vaccination as an intervention relevant to the prospects of hospitalization, complications, and deaths. The 13th valent pneumococcal vaccine was included in the list of reimbursed from 1 January 2022. In view of the analysis of this decision and the knowledge of new anti-pneumococcal preparations, the conclusion of the work is shift of the expert debate to the modern vaccination program for adults. Vaccination of adults against pneumococci is becoming one of the important elements in the fight against the health debt after the COVID-19 pandemic in the face of new threats in public health.
