Bearing in mind that organ transplantation has been performed in Poland for over 40 years, that Polish transplantologists are among the leaders in this field, and that it is
a necessary, effective and very safe treatment method which for many patients is the only chance to prolong life, the Seym appeals to the nation for general acceptance of this method of treatment.
At the same time we appeal to state and local governments of all levels for moral and material support in all educational campaigns regarding organ, cell, tissue and bone marrow transplantation.

JUSTIFICATION
Organ transplantation is often the only chance to save
a patient's life. The number of organs harvested from the deceased is considerably smaller than the requirements. For various reasons, last year organ transplantations (harvested from the deceased) were fewer by 45%. There are patients, especially those awaiting heart or liver transplants, who die before surgery.
The Catholic Church in Poland supports organ transplantation. Thanks to the Polish Union of Transplantation Medicine, Poland's Episcopate issued a Pastoral Letter to the faithful in this matter in September last year.
Taking into consideration the importance of organ transplantation, the European Parliament has submitted a Resolution to the Governments of Member Countries and European Union Citizens with an appeal to support all initiatives and actions in favour of this method of treatment.
The Resolution of the Seym of the Republic of Poland is
a response to this appeal, but first and foremost, it is an action aiming to save human lives.
