The use of intrauterine devices is likely to result in many complications dangerous to the patient’s health and life.
The paper presents 5 cases of patients treated surgically for the complications caused by intrauterine devices. One patient had IUD translocated into the peritoneal cavity, three had actinomycosis of the sex organs, one had actinomycosis of the greater omentum. The patients who underwent surgery had been using IUDs for 10 months to 10 years. Once actinomycosis was diagnosed prompt pharmacological treatment followed the surgery.
Since wearing IUDs is likely to cause different complications, women who are going to use that type of contraception should be informed accordingly.
