Purpose: Women with high circulating estrogen concentrations have an increased risk of breast, endometrium and ovarian cancer, thus it is important to identify factors, including enviromental and genetic variability that maybe alter estrogen concentration.
Patients and methods: We examined associations between Arg264Cys polymorphism of CYP19 gene and Val158Met polymorphism of COMT gene and serum concentrations of estradiol and progesteron in 32 women of reproductive age, who were not taking a hormone therapy.
Results: We did not find significant differences (P > 0.05) between sex hormone concentration and investigated polymorphism.
Conclusions: This result indicated there was no association between investigated polymorphism of CYP19 and COMT genes on the concentration of sex hormone in women of reproductive age, but additional studies with larger groups of subjects are needed to confirm these findings.
