This study discusses changes of leptin secretion, an adipose tissue hormone, during gestation and their influence on the regulation of body mass and adipose tissue storages during pregnancy.
The main causes of the increased of plasma leptin concentration during gestation, independent to hyperinsulinaemia, are: raising mass of the adipose tissue, stimulation of leptin secretion by gestational hormones and its’ placental secretion directly related to syncytiotrophoblast mass.
