Introduction: Both dermatologists and gynecologists deal with vulvar disease problems. There is only few epidemiological data concerning differences in prevalence of such diseases in age groups and in separate developmental stages during adolescence. The aim of the study was evaluation of various, most prevalent vulvar problems in patients attending adolescent gynecologic outpatient clinics in Poznań, Poland. Materials and methods: 2196 female patients aged 0-19 years were analyzed. Diagnosis was made based on clinical examination, including dermatological consultation, and microbiological diagnostics in inflammatory diseases, rarely with the use of histological examination of collected biopsies. Discussion and conclusion: in several cases dermatological examination is mandatory for diagnosis and appropriate treatment, what is not easily available in countries with limited number of specialists in genital dermatology, like in Poland. This is especially needed for dermatoses located on the vulva as one of possible skin locations (psoriasis, folliculitis, eczema and many others). A substantial increase of inflammatory vulvar and vaginal conditions was noticed in girls reported sexual activity, what suggests also putting attention on chances of infection by other sexually transmitted diseases and safe sexual relations.
