As opposed to the oesophagus, the stomach, whose mucous membrane is richly equipped in mastocytes, and wherein contact with alimentary allergens takes place on a large surface and longer period of time, is a very important shock organ of the IgE-dependent reaction. Acute symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract determine the frequent component of systemic anaphylaxis provocation of alimentary allergens in children and adults. The article is an attempt at approximation of the knowledge of the pathomechanism of reactions connected with allergic hypersensitiveness to food of gastrointestinal mucosa based on the current literature as well as own experience.
