Cardiac oedemas – pathophysiology and treatment
Online publish date: 2019/03/20
Oedemas (swelling) are caused by the accumulation of fluid in the extracellular space and extravascular organ tissue, often by overlapping causes.
The cardiological background is mainly due to right heart failure or side effects of concomitant medications. The basis of treatment are diuretics, which can be used as monotherapy or combination therapy. Nonpharmacological procedures are also important. Oedemas are important diagnostic symptoms and a significant burden for patients.
