Pulmonary hypertension is a disorder in which elevated pulmonary artery pressure (> 20 mmHg) is found. Symptoms of pulmonary hypertension are mainly due to right ventricular dysfunction. These include shortness of breath, including when bending over (bendopnea), rapid fatigue, palpitations, haemoptysis, or increased weight due to excessive fluid retention. New expert guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS) on the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension were released in 2022. This paper summarizes selected elements from these recommendations relating to the classification, diagnosis, and therapy of various forms of pulmonary hypertension.
