Glaucoma in general practice

Glaucoma is a common eye disease, in many cases leading to a vision loss. General practitioner should be able to recognize the clinical symptoms of sudden ocular conditions such as an acute closure glaucoma, refer patient to a proper specialist and be knowledgeable of therapeutic modalities and limitations. The aim of this paper is to draw attention of GP to glaucoma as a challenge in clinical practice. A classification shown in the paper distinguishes between open and closure angle glaucoma; most common symptoms suggesting glaucoma diagnosis are listed. The role of the general practitioner in diagnosing and spreading the glaucoma risk awareness in society is invaluable.
