Acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic carcinoma significantly affects the quality of life. The main symptoms are related to chronic, often severe abdominal pain which substantially disturbs normal activity of the patients. Chronic pancreatic diseases typically require frequent and prolonged hospitalizations and involve high costs of treatment. The therapy is expensive due to repeated surgical interventions, prolonged parenteral feeding, use of MC&S based wide spectrum antybiotics and involvement of multidisciplinary medical team. Cost effectiveness analysis is extremely important in achieving the therapeutic goals. Literature review proves the QoL analysis and degree of pain control are important end-points of therapy along with clinical outcome following surgical and medical treatment for chronic pancreatic disease.
