Double balloon endoscopy is a new technique of examination of the small intestine, which revolutionized the diagnostics and therapy of the small intestine. The examination allows minimally invasive visualization of the whole small intestine, biopsy sampling and carrying out therapeutic interventions. Four years’ clinical experience indicates that diagnostic and therapeutic yield of this method is high. In obscure gastrointestinal bleeding diagnostic yield exceeds 75%. Recently we can find data about application of the double balloon method in difficult colonoscopy, ERPC and in patients after surgery with Roux-en-Y anastomosis. Double balloon endoscopy is a promising method, which needs more study and experience.
