Syphilis in family physician’s practice
Online publish date: 2017/05/18
Syphilis is an infectious disease which still remains a problem – hidden, but present. Available statistic data can be significantly lower than the true incidence of the infection due to a small number of screening tests performed and transfer of the issue to private practices. Syphilis usually affects young adults, predominantly males. The general practitioners’ approach includes establishing the diagnosis basing on characteristic signs and symptoms of particular stages of syphilis; performing initial tests and control of the therapy course. This is also the point for pregnant women where initial screening towards syphilis are obligatory.
