The optimal heart rate – place of β-blockers in achieving the goal of therapy
Online publish date: 2018/08/09
The heart rate as the main determinant of the oxygen demand of the myocardium is a modifiable risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. Recently, many studies regarding the desired heart rate have been made, moreover, the opinion of expert groups in our country was devoted to this issue. In heart-rhythm control, non-pharmacological methods play a vital role, such as, limiting everyday stress, relaxation techniques (yoga, relaxing music, meditation, sleep), physical activity and diet. Patients with cardiovascular disease – coronary artery disease or heart failure – require the use of heart-releasing medication. The most commonly used drugs are widely tested β-blockers.
