The goal of this study was to investigate by means of a retrospective analysis the efficacy of a preparation containing two proteolytic enzymes (streptokinase and streptodornase) in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain syndrome in women. We obtained detailed observations at different time intervals from 29 patients. A structured questionnaire supplemented by a visual analog scale evaluating the subjective level of pain perception was used. We found a highly beneficial (p<0.001) effect of Distreptaza® in relieving pelvic pain. Our preliminary results were encouraging in terms of providing a rationale for a broader use of proteolytic treatment for chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
