Clinical presentation of Whipple’s disease, which involves different organs and systems during the clinical course, can cause many diagnostic problems and at the end inefficacy
of applied long-term treatment. Complaints from other organs and systems than the gastrointestinal tract can occur much earlier, even a few years before the abdominal symptoms. Usually the first symptom is arthritis. Until the time abdominal symptoms are presented, the disease may be undiagnosed. In this article we present the aetio-pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of Whipple’s disease. We illustrate the above information with two cases
of patients hospitalised in the Gastroenterology Department of CSK MSWiA in Warsaw, in whom Whipple’s disease has been diagnosed.
