Malnutrition states are found in as many as about 50% of surgical patients. They pose a serious problem during treatment, being a direct cause of many serious postoperative complications. The article presents the present state of knowledge of nutritional treatment, trends of using enteral and parenteral nutrition, and the rules of choice between methods of treatment.
