Development of professional qualifications in opinion of nurses attending bridge studies

Introduction. Specify of profession changes and development in nursing oblige nurses to develop professional qualifications, participation
in varied forms of continual education gives nurses and opportunity for professional development and a chance to approach patient in
a professional way.

Aim of the study. To define nurses interest in different forms of professional development, analysis of motives making nurses take a difficulty
of professional improvement and disturbance making impossible to attend trainings and courses.

Material and methods. Group of 80 nurses students of nursing bridge studies, Faculty of Health Science Technical-Humanistic Academy in
Bielsko-Biała were analyzed. Using diagnostic opinion poll questionnaire technique was applied.

Results and conclusion. Analysis shows that nurses would prefer to attend specialist courses and to do master’s degree of nursing developing
professional qualifications is motivated by better quality of care, satisfaction of work, opportunity to get a promotion or professional
mobility. The main difficulties on the way of professional development are: impediments from matron and administration of institution
mainly due to lack of staff, financial problems, not enough information or lack of time.
