Professor Antoni Leśniowski (1867–1940) and his contribution to the history of Crohn’s disease

Professor Antoni Leśniowski (1867-1940) for many years standing chef of surgical department and the chef of the I and II Surgical Clinic of Medical Faculty of Warsaw University. Many years before dr Crohn he describe the unspecific inflammation of terminal oleum. Professor A. Leśniowski published over 100 scientific papers, among them 28 urological papers. He was the main author of two volumes large surgical text book for medical students. Professor Leśniowski was the outstanding surgeon, scientist, teacher and organizer.
